PSD is a large progressive school jurisdiction serving Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, Parkland County and Athabasca Delta Community School in the northern remote community of Fort Chipewyan. About the Position:

PSD is currently searching for an Associate Superintendent: Instructional Services.

The Associate Superintendent will oversee and lead the work of the Division Directors and Principals in areas of Instructional Services and Technology Services.

The specific portfolio may change based on the experiences and skills of the successful candidate.

About the Role:

As a valued member of the Executive Team, reporting to the Superintendent, the Associate Superintendent, Instructional Services will support PSD in meeting the following outcomes:

In relation to Instructional Services

  • Supports schools in reviewing results and generating ongoing plans for improvement;
  • Provides direction, in coordination with the Executive Team, for all matters related to professional development, instruction, assessment, and reporting;
  • Ensures provincial compliance with respect to Provincial Achievement Tests and Diploma Examinations;
  • Maintains responsibility for Divisional Principals in the areas of Literacy and Lifelong Learning, and Numeracy and Achievement.

In relation to Educational Technology and Emerging Technologies

  • Provides leadership in the area of instructional technology;
  • Reviews technology security and ensures technology sector, insurance risk compliance;
  • Ensures privacy compliance for technology applications; and
  • Maintains responsibility for the Director of Technology Services.

In relation to Stakeholder Engagement

  • Coordinates system assurance through public engagement events, including community, parent, staff and student stakeholder groups;
  • Provides guidance to schools for effective utilization of school councils;
  • Oversees division-specific surveys to inform strategic planning;
  • Drafts the academic calendar for Superintendent approval;
  • Provides conflict resolution for parent concerns related to school concerns.

In relation to Strategic Planning and System Review

  • Analyzes school and division data and drafts the Annual Education Results Report;
  • Drafts the Annual Education Plan in alignment with stakeholder engagement;
  • Ensures system compliance with Alberta Education instructional requirements, the Provincial Approach to Student Information (PASI) and the Alberta Education Business Plan;
  • Reviews and drafts Administrative Procedures;
  • Generates and presents reports, as required, for the Board of Trustees.

About the Ideal Candidate:

The ideal candidate for this Associate Superintendent position is an experienced educational leader with a demonstrated record of improving academic excellence through effective, innovative, educational programming. The successful candidate:

  • Demonstrates a life-long commitment to learning in areas of instructional research, leadership, pedagogy and programming, and is an excellent practitioner;
  • Expresses a keen interest for, and demonstrated understanding of, the effective utilization of emerging technologies in education;
  • Has demonstrated success providing multi-faceted educational programs that promote student choice;
  • Is a collaborative, emotionally-intelligent leader, committed to strategic thinking, stakeholder assurance, transparent approaches to decision making, and demonstrates the strength to make and stand behind difficult decisions;
  • Has a proven ability to work effectively with school administrators, staff, parents, and community stakeholders;
  • Is able to consider complex learning situations from both a diagnostic and an educational perspective, and seek out creative and collaborative partnerships to support better learning experiences for students and families;
  • Is knowledgeable and supportive of First Nations, Métis and Inuit culture, and is committed to working closely with First Nations partners to attend to TRC calls to action; and
  • Is knowledgeable about current Alberta legislation, educational research, issues and trends

Qualifications :

  • Masters degree in Education, or related field;
  • Has a minimum of 3 years experience in school and division leadership; Experience as a principal would be an asset;
  • Must qualify for or hold both Teacher and Leadership certification in the province of Alberta; Superintendent Leadership Qualification would be an asset;

The salary will be based on experience and qualifications.

The position start date is negotiable.
